Shampoo bar net – Free crochet pattern

Last August I visited Texel (a Dutch island) for a day. I have been there before, but there are always new places to discover;) Texel is famous for its dunes, wetlands, birds, seals, sheep and many more things! You go there to relax, enjoy the nature and explore the surroundings by bike. So that’s exactly what we did! At some point we passed by a sort of farm and we saw that they also had a small shop. They were selling their own teas, sweets and also soaps. I noticed the shampoo bars and my curiosity was immediately triggered. I had been thinking about trying a shampoo bar for about a year now, but for some reason I never ‘ dared’ to try it. When I saw these handmade bars I thought it was a good moment to just go for it and finally try it out.

Since I’m a newbie with shampoo bars, I’m trying to understand the practical use of it. How do you dry it after usage? Where do you store it? How do you use it in the shower without wasting a lot of soap or letting it slip through your hands? I was already warned by friends that the bar can easily melt away in the bathroom, so it’s crucial to keep it at a dry place. Therefore I thought it would be handy to make a net to keep the bar in. Basically for two purposes: 1) use it under the shower to rub your hands over the net containing the bar, so it cannot slip through your hands and 2) to let the bar dry outside, with the possibility to hang it.

Materials

• Katia linen 3mm
• Crochet needle 2.5mm (for example these soft grip crochet needles)
• Scissors
• Needle

Abbreviations
ch= chain
slst= slip stitch
sc= single crochet
st=stitch

Shampoo bar bag pattern

Crochet 19 ch to make a net of approximately 7cm width. Add or substract 3ch if you want to make it larger or smaller.
Round 1: 1sc in 7th st from the hook (the first 4ch will form the first loop), *3ch, skip 2st and sc in the next st*. Repeat in between ** till the end of the ch. You should have 5 loops now. Crochet 3ch, sc in the same st, 3ch and sc in the same st. Now go further on the other side of the ch and repeat the pattern between **. End again with 3ch, sc in the same st, 3ch and sc in the same st. Slst in the starting ch. You should have 14 loops now (7 on each side).
Round 2: 2slst in first loop, *3ch, 1sc in the next loop*. Repeat between ** for as many rounds as you like, till the net is long enough. In this example, the net is 14cm long. end with a slst in a loop.
Round 3: 2sc in every loop, 1sc in every sc from the previous round. Fasten off.

Closure rope:
Crochet a long ch till you reach a length of approximately 50cm. Weave it through the net and pull it tight to close it.
Hanging loop (optional):
Crochet 25ch, pull it through the back of the net and close it with a slst. 25 slst all around and fasten off.

Since my net is ready now, it’s time to start using the bar! I’m very curious to hear your experiences and ideas to make the use of a shampoo bar as easy as possible!

NEDERLANDS

Afgelopen augustus bezocht ik Texel (een Nederlands eiland) voor een dag. Ik ben er eerder geweest, maar er zijn altijd nieuwe plekken te ontdekken;) Texel staat bekend om zijn duinen, graslanden, vogels, zeehonden, schapen en nog veel meer! Je gaat erheen om te relaxen, van de natuur te genieten en om de omgeving te verkennen op de fiets. Dat is dus precies wat we gedaan hebben! Op een gegeven moment kwamen we langs een soort boerderij waar ze een klein winkeltje hadden. Ze verkochten hier hun eigen thee, lekkernijen en zepen. Ik had gelijk mijn oog op hun shampoo bars, omdat ik al een jaar lang dacht aan het kopen van een shampoo bar, maar ik durfde het nooit echt aan. Toen ik deze bars zag liggen, dacht ik’ nu is het tijd’ en ik nam er een mee.

Ik ben nog helemaal onbekend met shampoo bars, dus ik probeer een beetje te begrijpen hoe je ze nu op een praktische manier kunt gebruiken. Hoe droog je ze na gebruik? Waar berg je ze op? Hoe gebruik je ze in de douche zonder heel veel zeep te verspillen of het blok uit je hand te laten glijden? Ik kreeg al de waarschuwing van vrienden dat ze letterlijk in je badkamer kunnen wegsmelten en dat het dus cruciaal is ze op een droge plek te bewaren. Daarom dacht ik dat het handig zou zijn om een soort netje te haken voor 2 doeleinden: 1) het gebruik van de bar in het netje tijdens het douchen, zodat hij niet uit je handen glipt, en 2) om de bar aan de buitenlucht te laten drogen met de mogelijkheid om het ergens op te hangen.

Materialen

• Katia linnen 3mm
• Haaknaald 2.5mm (bijvoorbeeld deze soft grip haaknaalden)
• Schaar
• Naald

Afkortingen

l= lossen
hv= halve vaste
v= vaste
st= steek

Patroon shampoo bar netje

Haak 19 l om een netje te maken van ongeveer 7cm breed. Haak een meervoud van 3l meer of minder als je het wat breder of smaller wilt maken.

Toer 1: 1v in de 7e st vanaf de haaknaald (de eerste 4 lossen vormen de eerste lus), *3l, sla de volgende 2st over en 1v in de volgende st*. Herhaal tussen ** tot het einde van de lossenketting. Nu moet je 5 lussen hebben. Haak 3l, v in dezelfde st, 3l, v in dezelfde st. Ga nu verder aan de andere kant van de lsosenketting en herhaal het patroon tussen **. Eindig opnieuw met 3l, v in dezelfde st, 3l, v in dezelfde st. Je moet nu 14 lussen hebben (7 aan elke zijde).
Toer 2: 2hv in de eerste lus. *3l, 1v in de volgende lus*. Herhaal tussen ** voor zoveel toeren als je wilt, totdat het netje lang genoeg is. In dit voorbeeld is het netje 14cm lang. Sluit met een hv in een lus.
Toer 3: Haak 2v in elke lus, 1v in elke v van de vorige toer. Hecht af.

Touwtje voor het dichtknopen:
Haak een lange lossen ketting totdat je ongeveer 50cm hebt bereikt. Weef het touwtje door het netje en maak een strik.
Ophanglusje (optioneel):
Haak 25l, haal deze aan de achterkant door het netje en sluit het met een hv tot een cirkel. 25hv over de lossenketting en hecht af.

Nu mijn netje af is, is het tijd om de bar echt te gaan gebruiken! Ik ben heel benieuwd naar jullie ervaringen met de shampoobar en als jullie nog goede oplossingen hebben om het gebruik makkelijker te maken, laat het ons dan weten!
